5rd BIENNIAL INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION "TRA TRADIZIONE E MODERNITA'"
(BETWEEN TRADITION AND MODERNITY)

The City Council of Ascoli Piceno, within the framework of the following event:
CERAMICASCOLI
to be held in Ascoli Piceno on 1st May 2018 announces the Concorso Internazionale Biennale di Ceramica Artistica e Tradizionale – Biennial International Competition for Artistic and Traditional Ceramics.
This competition aims to stimulate research through the renewal of expressive shapes and methods in the context of ceramic production, also including the city of Ascoli Piceno, by identifying decorative solutions that can successfully combine past and present through the "reinterpretation of traditions, styles, and patterns of ceramics", as indicated by the "law for the protection of artistic and traditional ceramics and Italian quality ceramics".

1 – Competition theme
Each year, different shapes are assigned and criteria are indicated to which each participant must adhere.
- A. For the 2018 edition, the theme is free form oil tempered " LANDSCAPE"
- B. Each contestant may submit a maximum of 2 works.

2 – Competition sections
Il Competition is open to an audience of artists, crafters, hobbysts, masters of art pottery, holders of trademark CAT ( artistic and traditional ceramics), sculptors, art schools, Associations, Design and
Artists Foreigners. The Biennale is proposed as a tool for growth and opportunity for the community and for the younger generation, allowing them to express and Vanguard techniques, linking tradition
and innovation. For the realization of the competition entries will be accepted using different ceramic materials such as lands, pottery, stoneware, porcelain and earthenware.
The winner of the 1° Prize ( Best of Award), Artists of Excellence, will receive an award of € 500,00.

3 – Procedures and terms of entry
- A. Contest entry is free.
- B. The written request for entering the competition, using the attached form, must be submitted by 5th febbraio 2018 , to the City offices in Ascoli Piceno.
- C. Before entering the competition, you must entirely understand and accept these Rules, as well as authorize use of the personal data transmitted.

  • - D. Along with your entry form, the following must also be submitted by 5th FEBRUARY 2018  2 (two) photographic prints (with minimum measurements of 15 x 20 centimeters) of the work that will be presented. The pictures must show the creation from all sides.
  • The same photos in high resolution digital format on CD must be good quality photos on a homogeneous background because if they are chosen, these photos will be included in the catalogue of the competition.
  • A descriptive fact sheet of the work, which must mandatorily include (under penalty of exclusion from the competition):  measurements, technique, and materials used.
  • A short résumé of the artist, specifying on the envelope the reference to the "Tra Tradizione e Modernità" (Between Tradition and Modernity) competition.

- E. All completed entry request documentation must be timely submitted by the 5th FEBRUARY 2018 deadline to the following address:

Entry requests will not be deemed valid if the documentation is incomplete. The material submitted will not be returned to the contestant.

4 – The Jury
- A. The jury for the competition will be comprised of experts from the ceramic art and technique sector who will make a selection on the basis of criteria that will be established collectively and that will focus on the aesthetic quality (shape and décor), on the originality, and on the technical functionality of the execution of the object. The jury's decision will be final.
- B. The Jury, selected by the City Council, will be appointed for both the pre-selection evaluation, in compliance with art. 5, and the evaluation of the works admitted to the competition and received in order to award the 2 prizes provided for in art. 6 of these Rules.
The commission, after having examined the works received and selected, can exercise its right to not award the prizes.

5 – Pre-selection
Pre-selection for the works will be carried out by the jury on the basis of the photographic material submitted. Also in this case the decision will be final. The result of the pre-selection will be timely communicated to the candidates.

6 – Delivery
- A. The candidates admitted to the competition must send their selected works, carriage prepaid, to the Museo dell'Arte Ceramica (Museum of Ceramic Art), Piazza San Tommaso, in Ascoli Piceno, within 10 (ten) days from receiving the letter of acceptance.
- B. The costs for creating the works, packing, shipping, and returns must be paid by the participant.
- C. The works must be perfectly packed, selecting a trusted shipping company. The organizers will be very careful in handling the creations, but they cannot, in any manner, be liable for any accidental damage that may occur. Furthermore, they cannot be held responsible for possible theft, damage, or loss in any manner generated. The works that are not received by the date indicated in the letter will not be accepted for the competition.

7 – Exhibit
- A. The works of the candidates selected who will participate in the competition will be included in the catalogue of the exhibit and will be exhibited to the public in the Museo dell'Arte Ceramica in Piazza San Tommaso n ° 11, in Ascoli Piceno.
The exhibit can be visited during the opening hours of the Museo dell'Arte Ceramica: from Tuesday to Sunday: except Monday.
- B. The prize for the works in competition will be awarded the morning of 1st may 2018 during a meeting-debate, when the third edition of the catalogue: Tra Tradizione e Modernità (Between Tradition and Modernity) will be presented.

8 – Prizes
Jury selection prize
1st place – the winner of the 1° Prize ( Best of Award), Artist of Excellence, will receive a recognition of € 500,00.

9- Publications
For each of the participating works, the organizers reserve the right to publish, on the internet site of the event, photographic reproductions to use for describing the activities of the event, with publication in newspapers, specialized magazines, and television, as well as publishing through any media deemed appropriate (printed material, publications, posters, etc.) for future editions.
The photo of a work of each participant for the 2018 competition will be published in the "Tradizione e Modernità" catalogue, and the image to be published will be selected by the examining Commission.
Each ceramicist selected will be given a free copy of the catalogue.
The catalogue will be presented on the morning of Thursday, 1st May 2018, in the Museo dell'Arte Ceramica, before the prize ceremony, which will be held for the winners of the competition.
