Confindustria Ceramica (the Italian Association of Ceramics) and the Italian Trade Commission are proud to announce the 2017 Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition Call for Entries. Now in its 24th year, the annual awards program recognizes the work of top North American architects and designers who create imaginative spaces using Italian ceramic and porcelain tile. From home kitchens to corporate offices to tile-clad facades, Ceramics of Italy is looking for all types and scales of built projects featuring Italian tile.
Prize
The grand prize winner in each category will receive $3,000 plus a trip to Orlando to present the project at Coverings during the Ceramics of Italy International Press Conference on April 5, 2017. As part of the awards package, the winner will also receive CEU-accredited trip to Bologna, Italy to attend Cersaie - the world's largest exhibition of ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings - in the fall, with a delegation of top journalists, designers and architects from North America. During the five-day trip, delegates will be led on a guided tour of the show, visiting a range of tile and sanitaryware companies while highlighting the latest products, design trends and technical advancements in the industry in addition to group dinners, offsite events and a chance to see tile production firsthand. An additional $1,000 will be awarded to the winning contractor/distributor team involved in each winning project.
Rules
The competition is open to all North American architects and interior designers. Domestic and international new construction and renovation projects completed between January 2012 and January 2017 are eligible for entry.

Criteria
A panel of design experts will judge the projects based on their creativity, functionality, sustainability and aesthetic appeal. The official criterion for the jury includes: overall design of the project, innovative use of tile, tile design, quality of installation, degree that tile enhances the setting and the project's sustainable attributes.
Submission Deadline
Submissions must be completed no later than January 6, 2017. Winners will be notified in February and officially announced at the Ceramics of Italy Press Conference at Coverings, held April 4-7, 2017 at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida.

What do I win?
The winning architect in each category receives a CEU-accredited trip to Bologna, Italy to attend Cersaie 2017 as part of a delegation of design and lifestyle journalists. In addition, a check for $3,000 will be presented during the Ceramics of Italy International Press Conference at Coverings 2017 in Orlando.
The winning contractor/distributor team receives a check for $1000.
When is the deadline for submission?
January 6, 2017
What type of projects are eligible?
Commercial, Residential or Institutional new construction or renovation projects completed within the past 5 years. Projects can be domestic or international as long as the architect or designer is based in North America.
How do I know if a manufacturer is a member of Ceramics of Italy?
Ceramics of Italy is an umbrella organization comprised of over 150 manufacturers of Italian tile. CLICK HERE FOR A COMPLETE LISTING OF COMPANIES.
Since it is a ceramic tile competition, are projects featuring glass mosaic tiles eligible?
Projects must feature products produced by at least one company listed in association list above. As it is a competition celebrating CERAMIC/PORCELAIN, a percentage of the products featured should be CERAMIC/PORCELAIN tile.
Does the project have to be exclusively Italian tile? Can I use mixed medium?
Yes, you can use mix-medium, but a significant portion of the project should include Italian CERAMIC/PORCELAIN tile.

Can I submit more than one project?
Multiple submissions are permitted. Please fill out a separate form for each project.
How much does it cost to submit?
There is no charge for entry.
How do I submit?
Click Submit on the toolbar and fill in the required fields. If completed correctly, you should receive a unique #ID that corresponds with your submission. Use the #ID to upload a ZIP file with low resolution images of the project.
