MORE CLAY LESS PLASTIC, the first exposition in Nove (Italy) september 2016

MORE CLAY LESS PLASTIC, change in your hand

MORE CLAY LESS PLASTIC, a project by Lauren Moreira, has finally hit the road! The first stop of the traveling exhibition was at Nove in the province of Vicenza during the ceramic festival "Portini Aperti", an event that had the participation of potters from many European countries.

The exhibition took place at the old glaze mill Baccin Cecchetto now Stringa, in the furnace room where the wood kilns were in function until 2002. These wood kilns were the last ones to be fired in Nove. They can still be used as in 2007 for a documentary made by japanese journalists.

I visited the show several times, not only to admire the pieces but also to savor the atmosphere, full of reminders of the potter's hard work. Everything was left as it was, as if time had stopped and to my surprise, I saw ceramic utensils from the old production that have exactly the same function of the modern ones in the MORE CLAY LESS PLASTIC exhibition.

Time runs though and mass production that brought many benefits to modern life is now interfering with the slow flow of life. Man's hard work has become less precious than that of machines. With the invention of plastic it became possible to produce anything in huge numbers. Man's hands are not necessary any more… in the future maybe not even the brain.

This is why MORE CLAY LESS PLASTIC is a long-term project that aims to invert the direction of production towards a new type of PROGRESS: the one that puts mankind and nature above all. Man's work should not be just  a means of wealth production but a way to transmit  traditional knowledge that remain efficient.

MORE CLAY LESS PLASTIC will travel Italy with this message, then I hope it will travel Europe and overseas.
