Roberto Rigon "Chromatic" Sculpture and Graphics
Guard House – Castello degli Ezzelini, Bassano del Grappa / Vicenza) Italy
2nd June – 2nd July 2017
Vernissage Friday 2nd June, 11.00 am
Roberto Rigon is being revealed to the public after many decades of work and personal artistic research, most of which is unpublished. The exhibition will take place from the 2nd of June to the 2nd of July at the ancient Guard House of Ezzelini Castle in Bassano del Grappa. It will allow the visitors to get close to a selection of achievements in sculpture and graphics from the 50s until now.
Rigon, born in 1929, originally from Friola di Pozzoleone where he still resides and works , hears the call of ceramic art at a very young age. He attends the local Regia Art School of Nove and gets in touch with Giovanni Petucco and Andrea Parini to refine his pictorial techniques and drawings. At school, in designs with plaster scuptures studies, his certainty in drawing and construction of volumes makes him a promising student .
He starts working at SICA company, le ceramiche ZAB and then Alessi. In early 50s, in an experimental phase he also tries getting into business with Gianni Tosin and Luigi Gheno at l'Etruria: although much appreciated abroad this proves non profitable for young Rigon seeking solidity for his family. After some collaborations with other companies, including San Zeno and Bertoncello ceramics of Schiavon from which he successfully completed forms and enamels of great success, in the 1970s he starts his own business with his wife Maria Luigia and sons .
The Rigon Ceramics, strong after the acquired experience soon becomes a solid reality that stands out from many competitors. Meanwhile, Rigon continues working in pictorial and sculptural research with geometric lines characterized mainly by a chromatic range created by his experienced use of glazes.
This feature although a fruit of continuous experimentation, is in fact only one of the tools with which the artist has chosen to represent a near reality or universal concepts from time to time. Moving with ease in representing man or animal world into chromatic and evocative syntheses, Rigon continues to experiment, relentlessly and well aware of the fact that one can always create something new. This exhibition is enriched by drawings and paintings from vintage photographs and sketches. It traces over sixty years of an unpublished artistic journey which will be accompanied by a photographic catalogue in Italian and English.
Patronage of the Municipalities of Bassano del Grappa and Nove and the Italian Association of ceramic Cities (AICC).
